At the core of Winter Tangerine exists a need to disrupt for the sake of survival. The voices challenged in our Workshop program are asked to interrogate the most specific & necessary ways to speak their truth. Since their inception, the WT Workshops have been a space for writers to face the difficult & magnificent with the same kind of reverence.
Entering our 5th year as a literary haven for urgent writers, this anthology is the latest iteration of documenting what is able to happen in the spaces we hold. This is simply a slice of the variety of voices in our community but in this time they spoke to a frequency of now.
The title, taken from contributor Che Justus, speaks to the intention of our workshops, to create a new alarm, a new call for action, a new declaration of otherwise dismissed selves. To create this work is to “remix the hymn” as M.L. Thompson writes. This anthology shows what kinds of retellings can occur in the often times muddling literary world.
Enjoy these selected works & many thanks to all of our workshop participants.
