You can swim?

Yes & I know how to drown.

            To swallow. To shower myself in early summer 

glow & tread lightly. This pool could be the entire state,

             this party a baptism. Parents & chaperones & friends 

watch with pale breath as I plunge below.          Did you think I was lying?

            I, from coastal city, with beaches, & swimming pools

& movie stars. Not all of us are scared of water,

                                     or drowning

most of us know we are never far from it,

              how we are constantly swimming anyway.
