Mariam is a spoken word poet that came by way of Lagos, Nigeria and Hyattsville, Maryland. She is an alum of the 2012 DC Youth Slam Team and competed as a part of the Eleanor Roosevelt High School slam team in LTAB in 2013 and 2014. Currently, she is a freshman at the University of University of Wisconsin-Madison double majoring in social work and sociology . At UW-Madison, she is a part of the 8th cohort of the First Wave program, a scholarship program that focuses on the hip-hop arts and giving back to the community. After graduating, she hopes to create and run a nonprofit organization that focuses on exposing high schoolers and middle schoolers in inner cities to different forms of art, and helping them to continue those crafts and create careers out of them. Mariam enjoys eating sushi, drinking tea and writing poems past midnight.
