Through extensive reading and research into folklore and mythology from around the world (and throughout history), as well as into magick and the history of the occult, I've created work that speaks of places imagined while still appealing to primal images. My hope is that my pieces will inspire the viewer to become a participant in creation, encouraging them to develop their own stories based on the images they are presented with and thus creating a sort of living, evolving fairy tale out of otherwise static work. In "Ekaterinburg", "She Waits", "In The Bone Kingdom (Persephone)", and "It's All For You" I was exploring the rituals and mythologies of death, juxtaposing petal pinks and beautiful bodies with moments of decay and ending to create a sense of unease and an exploration of the "feminine": a state of being that both uplifts and restricts.
Reading about the concept for “Fragments of Persephone” I felt electrified: this is my wheelhouse. I am fascinated (some might say obsessed) with the feminine as divine mystery, with women as a source and subject of myth and magic and the female body as a lightning rod of the sensual, the powerful and the feared. "You Are The End" is a series of exploration into myth and the feminine, the intersection of the female body and the rituals of death, Persephone and the Romanovs.
